Serena started her career working in various homeless hostels and refuges before joining Capital Housing in 1996, starting as a project worker and later securing promotion to her first management role. In 2001 Serena joined Look Ahead Housing in a management position at Gateway Foyer, later becoming Head of Quality and Performance until she left in 2008 to move to Wales.

After seven years with Grŵp Gwalia initially as Director of Supported Housing and latterly as Director of Strategy and Governance, Serena joined Coastal Housing Group in 2014 as Director of Homes, Communities and Services.

Serena was a trustee for the UK youth charity Foyer Federation previously: a not-for-profit organisation who seek to turn young people’s experiences of disadvantage into solutions that support their transition to adult independence. In 2013, Serena graduated from Swansea University’s MBA programme. In 2015, Serena became a foster carer with the local authority in Swansea and became a parent governor for a Swansea comprehensive school in 2020. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Housing.
