Thanks to funding from the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns programme and support from City and County of Swansea, Coastal Housing is upgrading 85 Kingsway, to include the installation of the city centre’s first green, living walls.

Green walls (also known as plant walls, living walls or vertical gardens) incorporate nature into urban environments and can provide an area with the following benefits:

– Supports air quality improvement in cities
– Reduces high temperatures in urban landscapes
– Can be aesthetically pleasing
– Improves urban biodiversity
– Reduces and absorbs noise levels from city centre traffic

In addition to the green wall installation, other elements of the upgrade works to the building will include:

– Visual improvements to all external walls
– New windows throughout
– New roof coverings

This initial phase will be followed by works to refurbish all internal spaces in the upper floors of the building to accommodate start-up and growing enterprises.

Living green walls are just one sustainability initiative within Coastal. Find out more about our commitment to the environment and future generations on our Sustainability page.
