We’re delighted to share that over 100 Coastal smartphones we collected as part of a recent tech upgrade will be refurbished and distributed to local people across the Swansea bay region along with a year’s free data from O2.

The #CommunityCalling scheme by environmental charity Hubbub has already refurbished and redistributed 5,000 smartphones across the UK in efforts to tackle digital exclusion and electronic waste.

Hubbub estimates that the #CommunityCalling initiative has already offset over 260 tonnes of carbon and saved over 14 million gallons of water, as well as transforming the lives of 5,000 people.

Rob Morgans, Resident Liaison Officer at Coastal Housing who led on the project said: “We recently upgraded our mobile phones across the business and were looking for ways to do something positive with the devices being replaced.

“At Coastal we’re conscious of the impacts that data poverty and lack of digital access have on households and communities, so when we heard about the Community Calling project, we knew that was the way we wanted to go.”
