Members of Swansea Council’s development team recently visited our Hedgerow development at Pennard to take a look at our traditional house builds along with the 6 semi-detached eco-homes built in partnership with Down To Earth. Constructed using local materials and skills, these homes are an example of how the overall cost of running a home can be significantly reduced through an eco-home design and technology.

These properties have a number of sustainable features such as Welsh larch timber frames, solar panels and breathable walls using sheep’s wool insulation.

The scheme has benefited from funding from the Welsh Government under their Innovative Housing Programme.

A reciprocal visit is planned for Coastal’s team to the council’s current development schemes where they are installing ground source heat pumps, solar panels and achieving EPC A amongst other exciting sustainable innovations.

Coastal’s Executive Director of Growth and New Business, Kelly Thomas said: “The challenge to create much-needed homes whilst ensuring our impact on the environment is minimal, is one shared by all social landlords. If we can share best practices and find solutions together, we are all better placed to meet this challenge.”
