Helping keep your home safe

As your landlord, at Coastal we have responsibilities to help keep your home safe. This means we will need to carry out a number of safety checks in your home, you can read details of these below.

As a resident it is your responsibility, as stated in your Occupation Contract, to allow us access to your property to carry out these checks.

We will do our best to arrange a time to do this which is convenient to you but you must be at your home during the checks as these have to be carried out by law. Failure to give us access to your home for these checks could result in a review of your tenancy.

Electrical Safety Check

This needs to be done every five years and will take around three hours to complete, this will include checking your smoke alarms.

You will be issued with a certificate to say your electrical supply is safe.

Gas Safety Check

This needs to be done once a year and will take about 30 minutes to an hour to complete. They will check everything relating to your gas supply to ensure its safe including testing carbon monoxide and smoke alarms. You will be issued with a certificate to say your gas supply is safe.

It is really important if you smell gas you call The National Gas Emergency Service immediately on 0800 111 999.

Sprinklers

Sprinklers in communal areas need to be checked every year. If you have sprinklers inside your home these may also need to be checked and we will contact you to arrange access.
