Coastal has received planning permission to redevelop an existing building at Gloucester Place, Swansea into apartments for social rent. The Swansea-based non-profit will now begin work to convert existing student halls of residence, a sandwich shop and office space to a fully refurbished complex comprising 16 individual self-contained apartments over 4 floors within Gloucester Chambers in the maritime quarter.

“We are seeing higher demand for Coastal homes than ever before”, says Coastal’s Executive Director of Development and Regeneration, Kelly Thomas. “Over 10,000 people are living in temporary accommodation across Wales; this development and others like it, funded by Welsh Government’s Transitional Accommodation Capital Programme, aim to increase housing supply to help meet local demand.
“Gloucester Chambers is a beautiful Georgian building, located in a highly-desirable area of the city. We’re delighted to be securing it for future generations whilst providing much-needed, high-quality homes at rents well below what people could expect to pay for a similar property in the private rented sector.”
