Coastal has supported two more community projects through its Horizon Fund, helping people deliver the change they want to see in their area.

Queer Surf Club Swansea has been awarded £1,000 to help create a safe, inclusive community for LGBTQ+ surfers to meet and surf together.

Funds will help provide the equipment and expertise needed for all interested people in the Swansea area to learn to surf and experience benefits for physical and mental wellbeing that can be gained from surfing and spending time in the ocean. As well as promoting a sense of community and belonging, the Queer Surf Club will also encourage members to work together to protect the coastal environment through regular beach cleans.

Restore our Gower Grow Space has been awarded £280 to help transform an abandoned greenhouse within Gower Heritage Centre into a botanical art studio that will host creative community workshops that reconnect people with nature.

The space will be hosted by We Are Woven and will run workshops with local schools, organisations and artists that seek to inspire expression, including days out foraging, creating land art and gathering treasures to unravel back at the studio.

Coastal’s Horizon Fund was established in 2021 and provides funding of up to £1,000 for civic improvement projects using the CrowdfundSwansea platform.
