Coastal continues to support people to bring about the change they want to see in their communities, funding two more projects through its Horizon Fund. The fund is currently available to civic improvement projects that are part of the #CrowdfundSwansea movement. Projects are automatically eligible for consideration by the Horizon Fund, with no additional application process necessary.

Newspaper with positive headlines

Swansea’s first positive news newspaper was awarded £700 to help create a real, tangible (recycled) printed paper with lots of stories about some of the amazing people who live in Swansea and some of the wonderful things going on. Coastal was one of 41 backers for the project, which included individuals and other organisations including Swansea Council, 4TheRegion and iCreate Ltd. Funds will help the project establish itself, recruit volunteer editorial staff, print and distribute the newspaper.

XL:UK Radio Swansea was awarded £200 towards creating a community radio station for local people, by local people. The project will also deliver a development platform to help local people gain skills and experience in radio and media, as well as offering ongoing support to participants to access employment in other media agencies.

Coastal’s Horizon Fund was established in 2021 and provides funding of up to £1,000 for civic improvement projects using the CrowdfundSwansea platform. To date it has funded 7 projects including The Hygiene Bank Swansea, Onwards & Uplands, Cyfoeth y Coed, Queer Surf Club Swansea, and Restore Our Gower Grow Space.
