Coastal Housing has acquired the former Kings Arms Tavern on Swansea’s High Street as part of its continued regeneration of the area.

The pub has been permanently closed for the past year and the listed building is in need of upgrade works. Coastal has a longstanding commitment to the regeneration of High Street, having invested nearly £30 million in the area over the last decade or so, through strategic acquisitions and redevelopment.

Commercial property consultants BP2 acted for Coastal in the purchase of the building, which will now be upgraded before being brought back into commercial use.

“We’re delighted with this acquisition,” says Coastal’s Executive Director of Development and Regeneration, Kelly Thomas. “It’s an important building, both historically for Swansea and in terms of Coastal’s options for further development in High Street.”

“Our focus right now is on upgrade works to restore the listed building to its former glory. We haven’t made firm decisions on its future but would be particularly keen to encourage applications for businesses serving the local LGBTQ+ community, given that historically the Kings Arms Tavern was an important venue in this regard.”
